Meet the people who provide the passion! SecurAlarm Systems’ management leads a dedicated team of more than 50 people – every one of whom is focused on achieving our mission.

Pat Van Haren

CEO/Chairman

Pat’s deep roots in entrepreneurship and growing a family-owned business fueled his desire to start SecurAlarm in 1993 when he realized he and Gloria Lubben could fill the void of quality security providers in the market. Pat’s hands-on approach to business started in high school at his family’s business, Van Haren Electric, for which he became the first full-time employee after graduating from Central Michigan University, giving him the opportunity to put his business degree to work. Under his leadership, which began in 1972, Van Haren Electric grew to become one of the largest electrical contractors in the area. With integrity, creativity, and a visionary spirit, Pat has built SecurAlarm which is highly recognized and respected in today’s market. Pat is passionate about the strength and growth of the family business and is proud to have a company that is focused on protecting what’s important. In addition to enjoying time spent with his children and grandchildren, Pat’s bring-it-on attitude and adventurous spirit shines bright in his other passion – sailing – as he hopes to someday sail the world!

Brent Van Haren

President

Brent joined SecurAlarm in 2006 after attending Tufts University for an undergraduate degree and later Marquette University, where he pursued his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering. Brent began his career with the company as a Project Manager where he was first exposed to what it feels like to work alongside an amazing team of people who are masters in their crafts. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned to Manager of Engineering where he learned how to improve standards and processes. During his own journey of learning and self-discovery, he began to truly understand the power of serving others in ways that are meaningful to them. As the President today, Brent has the honor of helping to grow our team and shape our culture as we pursue our reason for existence as a company: We Care, So We Protect. SecurAlarm exists to protect our team, our clients, our community and our culture. We are constantly trying to improve how we do this, and we hope never to stop trying to do it bigger and better. Brent has a true passion for people and unlocking lasting happiness through personal growth. Outside of work, Brent will be found with his amazing wife Stacey and their growing family of girls!

Gloria Lubben

Executive Vice President/Director of Sales and Marketing

Gloria joined with Pat Van Haren in 1993 to found SecurAlarm and help forge its vision. Gloria is passionate about working where what we do to enhance security on behalf of our clients matters. As a graduate of Calvin College, she takes her alma mater’s slogan of service personally: “My heart I offer to you Lord, promptly and sincerely.” Gloria has been active in the industry since 1983; as a consultant and trusted advisor to clients, as a respected competitor of industry related peers, as a teacher and mentor of teammates, and as a Certified Protection Professional since 1993. Today, Gloria leads the company’s Sales Team where she is able to mentor associates and share her years of experience and depth of knowledge in sales and the security industry. Gloria and her family enjoy the great outdoors; fishing, hunting, camping, and exploring different parts of the country!

Todd Van Haren

Controller

Todd joined the SecurAlarm in 2012 as Purchasing Manager and then became a Project Manager where he gained exposure to operations before assuming his current role as Controller. Before joining the company, he served as Manager of Financial Reporting at Precision Dialogue and Staff Accountant at FGMK, a Chicago-based accounting firm. Todd is a Certified Public Accountant and studied accounting and information technology at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He is passionate about supporting SecurAlarm’s purpose of protecting both our team and clients and loves that he can make a difference every day by providing support that helps guide decisions within the company. Todd has a passion for traveling with his wife, Ali, and is also interested in fly fishing, golfing, skiing, craft beer and food of all shapes and sizes! He hopes to earn his pilot’s license (if wife Ali will allow), and when not pursuing his hobbies can usually be found working on house projects or lounging with his dog, Hank.

John Hopwood

Sales Engineering Manager

John has been with SecurAlarm since day one. He has worn many hats in the company over the years, making his hands-on experience invaluable to the team! Today, John leads the company’s product evaluation process to proactively seek the best products and solutions to address client needs. In addition, he maintains our information systems environment. John also guides the Engineering Department to ensure that SecurAlarm systems are designed and implemented with consistent quality and accuracy. He loves sharing his knowledge and years of experience to help grow the SecurAlarm team which is evident when he says, “It’s not like ‘work’ when you enjoy what you do!” John also loves to travel around Michigan in his recreational vehicle camping with his family, and taking his Jeep on off-road trips whenever possible!

Walter Wing

Service Manager

Walter joined SecurAlarm Systems in 2015 after a 20-year career in law enforcement, most recently as a patrol sergeant for a West Michigan agency. As a seasoned police officer, Wally (as he is known by his peers and clients) brought with him a professional character and dedication that embodies what SecurAlarm team does to protect their team and clients. With the company, he can engage his true passion for serving and helping people. This includes developing team members and creating processes committed to protecting the families, businesses, and rich history of the West Michigan area. Wally leads the Service Department to ensure SecurAlarm clients receive the ultimate customer experience. Wally enjoys living in a rural part of Michigan’s Kent County with his wife and two young children. He is member of his local volunteer fire department and in his spare time can be found enjoying a quiet bike ride or working outdoors.

Nicole DeFever

Director of Strategic Development

Nicole started her career at SecurAlarm in 2008 after graduating from Michigan’s Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting. Nicole first worked as a Staff Accountant and then Controller until transitioning to her current role, where she supports SecurAlarm’s vision by highlighting and driving opportunities that will have a positive impact on culture, operations, and the bottom line. Nicole loves working in a company that cares about the growth and well-being of its team. She’s inspired and driven by the fact that while tomorrow may bring a new mountain to climb, she is surrounded by individuals that will support her ascent each step of the way. On weekends and during vacations, Nicole enjoys traveling and cycling around the country; her goal is to bike in every state!
